Shifting Pattern Decals

Does anyone know of a source for shifting pattern decals like on a H or M?

Everytime I get on a differnt tractor, I have to stop and think which gear is where! Especially on my W-30 with its right-leg clutch!

I think he means CUSTOM shift decals.

The shift decal off an H or M won't do you any good on a W-30 or any other tractor with a different shift pattern.

I'm not aware of anyone who makes custom decals like that.

If you've got a computer and a printer, you can get "sticker paper" from Officemax or Staples, draw something up in a paint program, print it, cut it, stick it.

Kevin, you're good! I had to sit here in front of the PC and think about how I shift it. It just dawned on me that I don't even think about shift patterns when running the H or the SM, I just shift it.

makes ya wonder sometimes...........................

I had to think about it myself. That is a real common pattern. It is the base for most of the fuller 13 & 15 speed truck trans also.

I have a lot of hours on those

Now I would have think if got back on a C or an old F12!!!

I think the F12 was

2 | 3
N For some reason I can't get the N to stay in the middle
R | 1 Neutral is vertical

And I can't remember the A, B C etc

Where is the correct placement of shifter decal? My dad's Super M has it on the lightbar, mine is located down by the starter lever. Also I've seen them on the rear of the fuel tank. Is there any correct location or is it personal preference?

The shift pattern decal on the M, Super M, H and Super H are all located in exactly the same place. On top of the fuel tank, centered from side to side, and the top of the decal measures 18 1/2 inches back from the tank/hood seam. The brake warning decal goes 1/2 inch above the shift pattern decal, also centered side to side. These specifications went unchanged for these two particular decals from at least 1946 on up, as that was the earliest dated memo I could find in the IH archives about them, and the latest one I found from 1954 had the exact same specs for these two decals, even on the Super MTA.

As an interesting side note, I also found a factory image from 1940 that showed the rear of an H in the field that had a PTO warning decal, even though no PTO was installed.

Would'nt the steering shaft block the view of the decal? You would'nt by chance have a photo of the placement of the decal?

I guess it might, but I also guess that wasn't really an issue when the tractor operators were moving around all the time on the tractor anyway, and not shifting gears on the move, only when stopped. I'll have to look for the picture. If I find one I'll post it as a new thread.
