1949 Farmall M manuals?

My brother in law just gave me a 1949 Farmall M, FREE!, tractor has been in the family for years and the only stipulation was that I never sell it which i agreed to without question.

My question is where do I get the service manuals for this tractor? I have been told there are manuals that show you how to tear the tractor down and put it back together. Any idea where I find one? (links would be greatly appreciated if you know any)

Thanks for the help

Ebay is a good starting place. Be sure to get a parts manual. It realy helps in tear down and putting it back to gether. Whats nice about a parts manual it shows the correct order of reassembly. An "IT" manual helps with good instructions. This also a good place to get help. Good luck and wecome to the fun.

Wow. Wish i had a BIL like that. We would love to see some pictures of your new toy. What do you plan to use the M for. They are a great tractor. Kent

I live on a private road that needs a ton of work, mainly back blade/york rake work, clearing some land and when I can find a wide front end ill put a loader on it and do some light loader work. Snow is a #*$&^% in upstate NY and im tired of paying people to move the snow for me.

www.external_link. Digital copies of the original, very clear. Get parts and service, possibly clutch manual if you know nothing about it. Supplement with an I&T manual. The service and I&T manuals assume some mechanical experience and do not give all the info on a complete teardown.

You dont need a wide front for a loader.A lot of people have the mistaken idea that a wide is "more stable".In fact you may regret the wide,as it will steer harder and not be as manuverable.Stability comes from the rear end and from useing your head.Think smart,be safe.

Welcome to the site and good for you. Make sure you get the BIL a nice Xmas gift this year.

As others have said, eBay is a decent place to find manuals. This site also has some for sale.

I like Binder Books the best. J e n s a l e s manuals are terrible. I would guess eBay would have decent M manuals because they are so common.

Keep the narrow front on it, then you can back it in the barn and park the snow blower beside it.

Binder books dot com, or, believe it or not, your local friendly Case-IH dealer. Occassionaly you will find an original manual on ebay, but most of what you will find there are illegal, pirated copys, and most of those are either a digital download or already on a cd. Kind of difficult to take a digital download copy out to the shop with you.
