IH 424 Hydraulic Problem

The 3 point hitch quit working all of a sudden. The pump at the front of the tractor makes a noise when I lift the control arm or the draft lever but the arms do not raise. I pushed a vehicle with the tractor prior to this problem but the tractor has a front bumper. Any suggestions?

Hi, I believe 424 is similar to 434 and there are a couple of hand operated valves in front of the seat, one is a push and turn, this one controls the flow rate to the 3pt, the other is a turn in/out, the in position will shut off 3 pt and divert hydraulic pressure to remote outlet if installed, if no remote outlet, the hydraulic relief valve will squeal as there is no place for high pressure hydraulic oil to go. Make sure valves are in proper position.
The other problem could be a clogged hydraulic suction filter in the hydraulic reservoir.

Hi Jim
You seem to be knowledgeable on these. I have a question I"m hoping you can help me with. I worked on a friends 424 and 1st the loader was very slow, it has the pump mounted on the rear of the timing gear cover. The valve on the left was broken off inside and I took the front cover off and replaced it. Everything was clean and assembled according to the B250 manual.It builds up pressure in the reservoir and the 3 pt hitch does nothing now, have tried the 2 valves in all positions.Oh BTW, I am Rocko59 from Red Power Mag forum and am a long time IH construction equipment technician. On my 2424 there is a filter inside the line under the seat where the line goes into the housing. It was completely plugged and caused my 3 pt to barely move.
