Tractor Vet- Still no 1206 steering

I put the pump back in, overfilled by atleast 5 gallons, and cycled steering wheel CCW with engine 3/4 full throttle. No pressure. I removed the 5/8 plug on back of mcv, still nothing. I tried pressureizing the transmission with air compressor to push oil to pump, and tried again. Still nothing. What else should I check?? Thanks, Doug

Check the relief valve back under the seat on the right hand side, takes 1-1/8" wrench see if it is gummed up and sticking open.

The relief valve under the seat will have no effect on the steering. That is the relief valve for the hitch and auxiliary valves.

Did you have the 5/8 inch plug out when you pressurized the transmission housing? You nee an outlet for the air otherwise the pressure will just equalize and accomplish nothing.

looks to me like you"ve exhausted most of the easy things to test and check. i think you might have to have another look at the mcv pump itself. you said in your earlier post it pumped oil when turned. all gear pumps will pump a little no matter what their condition, until you put them under pressure. your pump could have a blown seal or badly scored walls, which won"t let pressure build.
only other things might be blocked pickup tube, dirty filter or missing filter tube o-ring.
good luck, Brad

Yep, ya done it all . So i guess it is time to dig into the piggy bank and buy some pieces and parts. AND A I T manual and set down and read . Myself i would get a MCV seal and gskt. kit and a new MCV pump . Drain the oil and remove the MCV and get it on a clean work area and take it apart and start checking everything. check the spring free lengths and even go as far as a new spring kit . BUT when you change springs and install new you my have to cut some off the pressure regulator spring and you will need a fitting and a high pressure gauge to check pressure. It has to be a blowen gskt or o/ring or a stuck valve, as i have had some really plum wore out MCV pumps that i have always got them to pick up prime with the air pressure into the rear end but when i do this i have the engine running and i am here to tell ya that it will take a lot of air to push it up . One word of caution don't just pull the blow gun out once it does pick up let the pressure off EASY or she will look like old faithful shooten Hy Tran twenty feet into the air like the first time i did this . It did not make the twenty feet because the ceiling in the shop stopped it at fifteen feet and dripped Hy Tran for a month.

Thanks everybody for the input. It gave me some more places to look at. My new question: Is the 5/8 bolt on side of the mcv facing the front or back of tractor? I pulled the one out that faced the back- Wrong one?

The one (and only) 5/8 inch head plug faces the back. Make sure that the orifice inside the plug hole is not plugged. That could keep you from getting any oil to the steering. All the flow would go through the oil cooler.
