I need to redo the brakes on my SA. Looking at the parts manual, this looks like a very difficult job. Does anyone have any tips on how to make this repair with the least amount of problems?

Thanks for the help.

You need a cherry picker to remove the final drives then the rest is easy. You can find linning and rivets to reline them.

my farmalls had leaky oil seals. linings were o.k. i pulled the C brakes and laid them in the sunshine for a week or so and put in new seals. worked good for me.

For sure a hoist or possibly a floor jack under the gear cover / pan. I bought new complete bands on this site just last month for $38 ea + shipping , hard to beat that ....

Doug, I know this is probably too late but when I replaced the bands on the SA for a friend I made a jig to hold them. I took a piece of 4" channel iron with a piece of heavy 2x3 angle and added a straight caster on both ends. enclosed is a picture of them holding the drive up. You have to weld the upright angle just in front or the back caster . Then holes are bored to fit the 2 holes in the inside of the final where equipment bolts to. Hope this helps.

Great idea.

I might have to whip up a set of those too.

Perfect little project for the 4h kids to hone their welding skills.
