Excellent effort and fine handiest of all tractors for quick response and Hay making tasks. Not a big tractor, but is so useful it gets called on more than most others! Jim

Not being critical, but you would like it a lot better with a muffler (be sure to get one with a baffle, not a straight through). Best are the old style with small outlet which are real quiet. I want to get one when/if I ever get my C repainted and done. As far as I am concerned there is not a sweeter sounding tractor when they have the correct muffler.

MIKE...I "think" I read somewhere where SOUNDGUY mentioned having in his possession/OWNING a JD of some sort. He probably needed...and still needs... the "mental" exercise from time to time.

For years I've said the C-240 series of Farmalls were the handiest small tractor ever built. I firmly believe that anyone that ever spent an hour on one in the field would agree. I have run JD MT-420s, Allis B-CA, Fords of several vintages, even Cub and B Farmalls and there is nothing to match the little C series Farmalls. Dad bought his first in 1949 and always had one until he died in '84... Mom had his last C 'til she sold the farm in the mid-90s... almost 50 years with a C or Super C.

Carter and Grunewald is supposed to have mufflers made to the original specs in appearance and sound by early 2012. No muffler currently being sold has that sound. The ones by Mark's Tractors also had the sound but he is apparantly no longer in business. I have two of those. And the original mufflers and Mark's were straight through. I assume the new ones will be also. Quieter than an open exhaust, yes. But I lost most of my hearing by running an H for maybe 5000 hours with the original muffler in the 50's.

just running around the farmyard doing my victory drive, i can say she sure is nimble.. i like the gearing too. not too fast in low..

I've still got some detail work and scootching to do here and there on her, but I wanted to do my victory drive this am around the farm.

what a sweet lil tractor she is.

i appreciate all the schooling that I recieved here from other IH owners getting me up to speed on her.

I believe once I get all her detials pinned down, I'm going to build a 3pt hitch for her.

I have a buddy in IA that has pretty much the exact same tractor. I think we may compair notes on the 3pt setup..e tc.

thanks for your help, I'm sure there will be more questions yet.

if we are talking rowcrops, there's a 950, 951, 740 and 4000 ford .. all rowcrops, getting jealous.. not to mention a JD B as well.

still plenty of detail work to do on her. some more paint touch ups, plus the alt bracket was a fab up I made to replace the flimsy junky one the prev owner made.

it's only tacked together as a test. it needs to be permanently mounted now and adjusted a bit more.. not to mention I plan on adding a axle trumpet step, and building a 3pt for it.

plenty to do.. :)

it sure is a fun machine

she sounds nice and throaty with that pipe on her. kinda has a 'red power' sound to her :)

I may have a muffler in my pile o parts.. will give a look.. if not.. I may just leave the pipe.. looks kinda cool too.. to me anyway..

He is probably STILL trying to figure out that mysterious "miss" that so many of them seem to have Rick????( "POP","POP","POP" L M A O!)

It aint easy bein green! :)

That is the tractor that started the whole Farmall thing with me.My Great grandfather bought a Super C.My dad was allowed to drive it as a small kid.He was hooked! He told me that story and how he liked the BIG "M" seires(cheap and good horsepower)He said we should always get one,so I bought a Super M and the rest is history!!!

One of the slickest 3 point adaptors I have ever seen for a C was also one of the simplest using the lower arms from a farm supply store. If memory serves, he had simply attached them to the lower two bolts on the drawbar mount. Wish I had a camera at the time to take a photo, but I did not. I purchased a commercial made hitch, and it was worthless, and ended up taking it off. Saginaw County Tractor makes a nice one, but the price is more than I could sell my tractor for.

If you like "deep throaty" sounds coming from the exhaust, NOTHING, and I repeat NOTHING beats an F-20 running right.

A tuned up, full throttle F-20 with the 90 degree exhaust elbow, under load, will bring tears to your eye's and "fire" to your furnace.....no little blue pills needed! Makes the New York Philharmonic jealous!

Be bold, get an F-20 next.

PS: An F-20 that is tuned right will run rings around an H, and give an M everything it wants to handle.....downside is it is slow, and rears are not adjustable enough to make it an easy haul unless you have a deck over trailer.

You'll find those Ford tractors (8N, etc.) handy for gathering eggs. If you have any work in the field, you better go get your Farmall or JD.

So,what you are trying to say Tom is that you kind of like the F 20s ???? :)

Son,you are taking this hobby WAY too seriously! (kiddin ya,L O L !)

Now Mike, what would make you say that! LOL! well, yes. My F-20 is my favorite of the F series, although I am willing to bet the F-30 gives her a run for "my love" after I get the 30 together.

Of the letter series, not sure I have a favorite. a SM is a beast, and beastly things make me smile! The SC is just a nice overall tractor. The BN is a workin' little cuss for it's size. Believe it or not, my Cub is worked more than all of them next to the BN. The Cub plows snow, plows the garden, disc's, plants potatoes, harvest's potatoes, and keeps the weeds cut along the burm with the sickle bar, spreads gravel in the driveway, fills in trenches......you name it. Get's more work than the rest combined.
