Is there a market for this ??

Thinking about going in with a guy I know to reline the PTO brake bands for 300 through 450 IPTO Farmalls. Might even reline all the old and late model clutches (all colors) too. I'd have to have the cores shipped in and the finished product shipped out, but those brake bands are impossable to find at any price. What do ya think?

Not to be a nanny, but do you have an EPA=approved asbestos control/disposal plan in place?

Bob is absolutely correct. Be careful to follow all the regulations. Your safety, your kids safety, liability.

There is always a market, but is there enough of one to make this worth your while. You might want to contact a couple of parts dealers and see if they want to sub-contract you to do the work for them.

I'd say yes. Price the rebuild where you think it will work for you and see what happens. If down the roar you see you are getting good business and making more money than you can stand you can always drop your price. (cuz if you are too high somebody else will start doing it cheaper)

yes -

Unless you're just sitting around with nothing to do and all the time in world to do it, I'd say see if you can find a distributor to carry your rebuilt products.

Let the resellers do all the marketing, sales, and customer service for you. That's where you'd eat up your profit, mostly in lost time.

Otherwise you're going to spend all your days giving step by step instructions on how to replace brakes to people who really shouldn't be allowed to touch tools.

Seriously. Dealing with the general public on a national level is, well, "disturbing" is the kindest way I can describe it.

There are still used ones around at $100+. Wengers is one source. As to clutches, don't even think about it. Clutch plates and entire rebuilt clutches are readily available at a fair price, doubt if you can compete.

Usually when I need a part I need it now. Wengers gets good used parts to me in about 4 days. If I'm not in a hurry I would choose the cheaper route.

I'll let you practice on my SMTA. Mines sitting on the floor with the delete plate on because it won't hold anymore. It used to work for easy work (self unloading wagons) but after dynoing the tractor it is junk.
