Farmall F20 Wheel Bearings

Hi guys, I've just started working on my first F20, 1937 with the old round spoked rims.
I took the hub caps/covers off the front wheel, and then the lock nut, and then there is what appears to be another nut that would turn out with a spanner wrench.
Before I go reefing on that and break something, can someone tell me if that is how they come off?
I have ordered a manual, but its not here yet.

Thanks!

go tot he online parts lookup and pull up an exploded diagram.. worked out great for me when I was looking for parts for my C

You won't need a spanner wrench, just a dull chisel and a hammer. They are usually not that tight as this is the nut used to tighten the bearing, It comes out counter clockwise.

There should be a lock ring in between the nuts pull that out and spin the inner nut off with a big screwdriver.

Royse, There is the cottter pin than nut and lock washer. Than washer with pins to match the flat sholder on the axle. The nut has the holes for the washer pins to lock in. I tap with a punch in one hole to spin the nut off than you will have the bearing. It is a puzzle if you have never done it before.

Got it! Thanks guys!
What I was seeing that had holes in it like it took a spanner wrench was the lock washer that 36F30 (and others) mentioned.
If I had tried to turn that the D shape in the middle would have either broken out or scarred the axle.
Glad I asked!
I'll try to get some pictures up. Its in pretty good shape to start with.

post some pictures when you get the time. Yes, the front wheel bearing setup is a bit confusing as was stated if you have never seen one before.

That don't work for the old ones Chris as they don't use exploded pictures. The old pictures just show the parts layed out on the page and not all in scale either.

Cotter Pin? All the front wheels on F-20s that I have worked on had a bent-over washer with a D-shaped hole to keep the outer nut from turning.

why not?

even the 39 ford is exploded diagrammed out.

somebody get cheap on the original micro fiche?

this is the reason i would give a 4 year. just because.

have no idea why they wouldnt, but ive got TONS of pre 39 literature and IHC just didnt do exploded view in parts books. they would give cross section diagrams of 'assamblies' in there though
