706 hydraulics

hi my 706 the hydraulics have been good until recently my loader would stay up days then sunday i went to put out hay an the loader would drift down visiably an i was wondering if i need to rebuild my valves thanks

It may not be the valves on the tractor. It may be your loader cylinders are leaking interally. Run your loader about 10 min. up and down. Then see if the cylinders are hot, if they are they need repacked.

If the valve leakage is what is allowing the loader to settle there no rebuilding them to cure that problem. They depend upon a select fit between the spool and valve body to seal off any flow. If they get scored they will allow leakage but it usually is not the problem.

In applications such as the fast hitch where any leakage could be a problem a double acting check valve was used to eliminate any leakage.

To assess system, or cylinder problems, Put a chainfall or comealong between the loader and a overhead support. Lift the loader to a foot or so off the ground. Let the loader down such that all weight is off of the cylinders (if dual action cylinders with downforce, be careful to get it neutralized)
Shut off the tractor and move the control levers to remove any residual pressure. Disconnect the hose or hoses to the cylinders (quick disconnect couplings I hope, if not cap the hose/s) then lower the support carefully. If the loader lowers as you let the chainfall down, the piston packing in one or both is bad. Jim
