All the same??

A fellow has a pair of cast centers for a 460 for sale but his are 2 3/4" axels but mine are 2.500. Was there a light and heavy axel in the 460 or is this a mistake?? I doubt if MR LS Starrett is wrong?? Bud.

The larger diameter axles were an option.

There was a heavy duty axel option for those tractors if you were going to mount a picker.

We never sold any 460's with the smaller axle that I recall. All the same size outer end as the 400 to 560 but the inside end was smaller.

There were a lot of early 460's with the 2 1/2 inch axle and as long as ya did not mount a corn picker on it they got along just fine . But mount a mounted two row and you were in for problems. don't know exactly when they started offering the heavy axle . The first 460 i had had the small axle and one one friend's 460 Use to be a small axle till we changed it back in the late sixty's due to axle breaking from the mounted picker. Don't hold me to this as it has been awhile but i am thinking that all we had to change was the axle and add the bigger wheels.

Speaking of the cornpicker thing. Did that on a 300. You get that 'Oh Crap' feeling in your stomach when a wheel falls off.

I think all the very early 460s with the 2.5 in axles were recalled and updated to the 2.75 axle. However a few never got changed.
