Poor luck continues

Well my freshly rebuilt Cub won't start. I had spark at one point and fuel but no fire. Changed points, condensor, cap, rotor and wires. No spark. Have power on both sides of the coil. So with no spark at the plugs does that mean bad coil? This like so many of my other projects is getting frustrating. I guess that is why we do it!

Does a voltmeter on the wire between the coil and dist. show fluctiation between voltage and ground as the engine is cranked. If not, you may need to clean a little oxidation off of the points. I usually use a dollar bill dragged between the points to clean off any oxidation from storage. There's something in the rice paper our money is printed on that make a graet point cleaner

Paul is on it. Put the coil wire near a ground with tape if necessary. Take off the cap and dust cover.
Use a screw driver to touch the points where they contact each other. Pry them apart a little It should spark, making nice fat sparks at the coil wire, and smaller sparks at the screw driver tip.
Adjust the points to .020" when on the point of a cam lobe. It will run. Jim

sounds like your points are not making contact because of something coating the contact surfaces or you don't have a good connection with the points or points to ground, with a test light dist. cap removed points open test the wire where it connects to the points with the ign.switch on, it should light up, then turn the engine enough to close the points then retest it, should not light up ,if it does try cleaning the contacts, if after cleaning contacts if it still lights with points closed ,hook the test light wire led to a hot wire and test contact for proper ground, it will light any time it makes contact with a ground ,points base and base plate as well as dist should be a ground source,a common mistake made when hooking up the wires to the points one of the wire will get positioned wrong and short out the points, but you said you coil is hot on both sides that won't be the case if its shorted

here's how to check a coil. disconnect the wires (you can do this with the coil off and in your hand) have the high tension wire in the tower. Hook a battery (or battery charger) positive to + and then touch the negative to the - side. When you release the connection it should throw a spark. What you are doing is replicating what the points do.
