m throwout bearing fork

Easy repair if that is what broke.
Remove the spring from the fork.
There are 2 bolts on the fork that clamp down on 2 washers that sit in keyways on the shaft.
Pull shaft out of bell housing till you can slide off the fork.

You really need to see what's wrong first then the answers will be better.

thanks, can"t say i"ve ever seen a photo so clean! its not what you pointed out tho, its the thing above it plus the throwout bearings themselves broke out of the corral. not sure what caused it, setting up a engine hoist today to split it apart, will know some answers soon. thanks again

You don't have to split it to do the clutch if it is a regular M.
You won't be able to remove the flywheel but you can replace the rest of the clutch parts.

Edit: Here is what mine looked like when I started.
I also found 2 missing bolts that I replaced.
I didn't split mine. The flywheel was fine.
