Jimb2 Fuel conditioner question?

I read a response you give earlier concerning adding diesel fuel conditioner to low sulpher fuel. I purchased an International 385 few months ago, very good tractor. Was wondering what brand of conditioner you use? There are lots of additives on the shelf, don't like to put anything in fuel unless its recommended and used with good results. Thanks, Leon

Hi, yes the 385 has a 3 cyl D-155 German Diesel with a Bosch fuel injection pump with a lip seal on the front drive shaft.

I cannot say one brand of Diesel fuel conditioner is any better than the other. You can search archives on this form and there have been many discussions about Diesel fuel conditioners.

Myself I recommend a couple table spoons of crankcase oil added to the tractor fuel tank every time you add Diesel fuel.

The problem with low sulphur Diesel fuel is the lubricity is reduced and the older Bosch injection pumps relied on the lubricity of the Diesel fuel to lube the internal parts of the injection pump.

Hope this helps
