Hi, Can someone please give me a bit of info on the 335 cu motor from a wd9. I keep running into ads for parts labeled " Old style" or "New style". Is this in reference to the Super motor or did international make changes to the original motor throughout the years that the wd9 was built? Are the heads and injectors all the same? What other parts are different? Anyone know where I can get a complete engine rebuild kit for one? Thanks!

There may be components available, but Kits are probably not to be found. Bearing sets (standard and undersized are very pricy due to NOS or custom made bearings being about all there is. I do not know of Early Late issues at all. The archives will have clear postings on this engine. Used for many years and in tracked units, and power units as well. Jim

Old style 335's as you call them had sleeves that were flush with top of block and need a head gasket that sets on the top of sleave to keep it from moving. The new style diesel 335's use a sleave that is .004's taller than block, requiring a head gasket that fits around the sleave. This is only gasket I have been able to buy for mine. The heads have had many up dates through the years, All should fit any 335 or 350 engine.

That's not really dead on, but close. They heads are all interchangeable, but there are two different styles of injectors (possibly lines) so you need to have injectors matched to the head.

d282 will be able to tell you a little more about it. He bought a good head for his (now my) WD-9 and had it all bolted down and found out he needed different injectors for that head. Last I heard he has a good old style head for sale.

WD-9 parts are getting real tough to find, especially engine kits. WD-9's have been on our family farm for over 50 years and I have really noticed how scarce parts are becoming. In my opinion, we are now at the time where enthusiasts will have repairable tractors in the shed but won't be able to find parts. The prices have skyrocketed for any parts that are in the hands of the NOS dealers. Personally I am getting discouraged and have been considering selling my modest tractor collection mostly because I can't find parts.

Fittings are different too, for those early Bosch equipped units.

There is a crankshaft change in the 335 somewhere as well. They went to bigger journals.

There is no such thing as a rebuild kit. If you are lucky you can get a couple things at the same place. To the best of my knowledge new sleeves and pistons don't exist unless you make them (or NOS).

I have/will have a bunch of spare parts like a crank, a fixable head, some pistons and rods. I will have a good set of 4.4" pistons if I can find a set of 4.5" pistons for a "reasonable" price.
