Way off topic--mouse poison

Does anybody have a rat/mouse killer that actually works? I've been using Tomcat chunks in my shop to get rid of the mice. They eat the stuff like candy & don't die. I've gone through 1/2 of a 4 pound bucket & the critters don't die--just keep eating the stuff.
I believe the company changed the active ingredient to the same stuff the gopher killer has in it. None of it works.
Any one with ideas? Maybe traps??

put de-con (pellets in trays) around my shop, no more mice, flying squirrels for a couple of years. Just put out some new, for insurance

Maybe you have a lot of mice? I use mostly bar bait for pack rats and any of it seems to work. Just one Bite, Havoc, Ramic. The D-con in the little triangle packs works good for mice. But any of it the rodents will carry off and stockpile. With the rats I just put the bait out for a few days and then quit. That forces them to eat what they've been given instead of just hiding it. Then in a week or two I put out some more and it generally remains untouched. The critters are dead.

I use the same stuff, And it works because I can smell the dead ones, but there is usually 3 more mice to replace everyone that dies. I have found that keeping the bait out year round provides the best control.

Best way to get rid of mice and chipmunks is to use the bucket method. Google bucket of water mouse trap. This method really works and it is free

Who's saying they're not dying? Are they wearing name tags or something, that you can tell it's the same mice over and over?

You could possibly have a LOT of mice around there.

If you also have problems with gophers you can drop some decon pellet down their drop hole. Tried this several years ago and got rid of all the gophers in my yard.

I use Jaguar bait chunks, they are blocks with a hole in the middle. I tie them up on a wire so they have to eat it to take it. Works good.

That's the same way I do it. I can see at a glance how much has been eaten and when to replace it.

I don't know if you farm or not but if you have a restricted use pesticide lisence then you can go to a place like Ortho and buy the better stuff. It's a step up from what is available in the stores.

Gramps told me, back in the day, that for every one you see they're are a dozen you don't.

I bought a house that had been vacant for several years and full of rats. Put out most of a 25lb bucket of pitch packs till they stopped eating them. It's the poisen that make them go to water so I didn"t have dead rats in the house. Never smelled a one.

You will probably find the Tomcat pellets "stored" somewhere later.
I found that the stuff that is in a pressed cake or corn cob shape works pretty good.

I’ve tried an awful lot of different things, but the good old Victor style mouse trap is still my choice. I bend the tang a bit to give the trap a hair trigger, then bait it with peanut butter. I put the peanut butter on the bottom of the tang and on the wood directly below the tang. This prevents the critters from licking off all the bait, and forces them to wedge their heads underneath the tang. Then SNAP!

I have three traps in the basement and an LED indicator in the kitchen. The LED is green if all the traps are set, but turns to flashing red if a trap is tripped. That way I don’t have to go downstairs to check the traps, and the bodies don’t stay in the traps long enough to get ripe.

I have the same arrangement in the attic for flying squirrels, except that it’s a rat trap rather than a mouse trap.

I’m not too fond of poisons because you can’t control where the critters die (and rot). Back when I did use poison, Warfarin seemed to work pretty well. It was always good for a chuckle when they would take it upon themselves to tear open a bag of warfarin on a shelf in the garage.

I had a couple of non resident pheasant hunters here a few years ago. They saw a few mice and were really concerned. So we set out 6 Victor traps in the garage and shop with peanut butter. Caught 12 the first day/night.
Then 100 by 1 Jan. But half of those were the white bellies, field mice, that come in for the winter only.
