400 paint,HELP

Painting a 1954 400 for a friend. The paint chart on this site 1102B
1949-late 50s which everyone says can't be mixed. #201 which
started with the 450s replaces #50 as per PCD100, what ever that
means. The local Case/IH dealer says use #2150 which is post
1961. What do you Farmall experts use, the earlier #50 or the later
#2150?

Valspar Restoration Series IH Red is more like #50, or so i'm told.

I used it on my Super H after priming with Rustoleum rusty metal primer. The red came out very deep and dark... I like it. Dad uses 2150 on his tractors and they're a bit brighter.

There are no experts -- use 2150 if you want -- crosses to PPG 71310/Dupont 96766. I use a slightly modified version of 71310 to get part of the orange out. Sequence was IH 50 (PPG 70019/Dupont 7410) from 1936-1949; 1102B 1949-1958; 201, 1958-1961, 2150 1961-mid 1970's or so, I'm not familiar thereafter. Remember that IH 50 and 2150 are likely the only ones that can be mixed. Also the original colors do not exist anymore, mainly because of EPA regulations resulting in new formulations that the paint companies did not try very hard to match to the original colors. AND, far as I'm concerned, the dark colors from the farm store paint are more "incorrect" than any.

NOT to start argument,AND I know this has been answered 100s of times,BUT I am gonna ask it.

Are 450s a DARKER red than 400s ?????

Every 400 I have seen looks more orange than the 450s(on average)

BTW,I am not really a "knit picker" when it comes to IH red.I am not the "paint police".

But I AM HIGHLY allurgic to John Deere green, for some reason ??? :)

Same color, chances are you are looking at repaints with different brands, or painted at different times -- as implied below the current 2150 has an orange tint that did not use to be there. 400 and 450 came from the factory with 1102B.

It seems to me the 2150 gets darker after it cures out. However, it takes it a while to get there. When first applied it does seem to have an orange tint but, after a few weeks it gets to looking more like the old farmall red.

Yes, it does get darker, but I have a Super H painted about 8 years ago that is still orange. Paint mixer messed it up, no reason for that if they are the least bit careful.
