Cub generator OK. VR diagnosis?

Grounded the field and it puts out power, but not w/o ground.

Next step? VR looks nice inside. No corrosion.

if full fielding it makes it charge, but won't otherwise charge on it's own.. then it needs a vr.

make sure all relay contacts CAN move freely. once in a rare while you will get a ticky one that can be cured by cleaning.. but many times it's a piece of hiar thin fine wire burnt thru or some other such 'non repairable' issue

make very sure the VR is grounded before tossing it. Run a good jumper to ground from the frame of the VR. if that does not make it charge, Tossing (or returning as defective) is the only answer. Good luck on the return, they usually laugh at the attempt. If they try it and it is no good they will say you toasted it! Jim Jim

Cleaned the contacts and checked the ground and it charges fine, now.

Thanks guys.
Guess it wasn't as clean as I thought.
