Hope to get the 2-hole coupler off today, to get to the transmssion oil deal and retainer, trying to be optimistic here. Worked all day yesterday, and the day before, have been able to press the coupler forward about 3/8". (That works out to 3/16" per day.) Went to salvage yard yesterday, got another coupler, and I can see I have only 1/8" to go. I cannot imagine what is holding that thing jammed into place, everybody I talk to says "It just slides off." Uh-huh.
I have given up talking to it, cussing it, cussing the tractor, now I'm just laughing at it.

I can't imagine what it would be hanging up on, but I would bet it is the result of a previous attempt at repair by someone who should not have been allowed to even own any wrenches.

I would make sure the input shaft is in good shape before putting a new yoke on there. Someone may have buggered it up, as someone stated.

The yoke should easily slide on/off all the way.

When I did the front Seals on my Super M I spent at LEAST three days working with that Damn couple; I too found it doesn"t want to "slide off" as people say it should. What I ended up doing was heating it with a propane torch, then using a BFH and pry-bar to knock it off. Then After the coupler was off I took a brake-cylinder hone and cleaned up the inside hole and used Emery cloth on the actual shaft. Keep working on it, it should work its way off.

First off, I very rarely take the coupler off while under the tractor, I remove the cage with the coupler, shaft, gear and bearings so you can repair it correctly. This requires removing the belt pulley attachment or delete cover so when you put it back together you don't ruin the pilot bearing. You will 95 percent of the time be glad you did it this way as you will find something else worn out. Then, when putting the coupler back on you can support the shaft the way it was intended to be done.

Progress Report; 1:00 Afternoon; This is getting ridiculous. I have pulled the coupling clear, I can see 1/8" behind it, all around it, and it STILL won't come off. The thing must be hung up on a galled-up shaft, or a bugggered-up woodruff key. I'll know more as soon as the good wife gets the potato soup hot, I eat, and I DO GET IT OFF! It IS coming off!

Got it. Three days. Minor burrs on the woodruff key, some minor burrs on the keyway in the coupling, but nothing I would have thought a problem. No galling, the inside of the copupling is smooth, clear, greased. Dangdest thing.
