had to go run some errands and take the wifey out to din din after thatlast bit oh work, came home and got another 1.5 hours in before running some more errands to tsc for feedstuff and tools.

tried to manhandle the front pedistal with a loader and chain and decided to just unbolt the lower section and makeiteasier to manhandle the upper pedistal. had thewife poke the bolts in the holes as I held it up.

used a bottle jack to scootch the lower pedistal up and get the nuts back on.. she's setting on all 4 again, waiting for a rad and linkages tobe hooked up.

I'll be making a new alternator bracket as the prev owner used the genny bracket and some 1/4" allthread stuck out the front with a washer stack and a nut holding the lower ear of the alt.... thing was bent a good 20' cuz the allthread couldn't hold tension. I'll weld a 'L' shaped tab to the oem genny bracket so pass some new allthread thru, and upsize to 3/8, and make it so the end of the thread is supported on either side of the lower ear..

may be a friday morning job.. dunno. thereis a tractor show in town I mayplay hookie and go see.

You can get king size jack stands at NAPA, they are expensive, but you can toss the wood, except for maybe one block under the jack stand for larger tractors (a block is not needed on the C) and be more stable.

Looks like you got all of the fun stuff done, now just the finishing touches. I like the two sets of blocks in case one fails, I should do more things like that! lol let us know how it turns out.

i've actually got 4 sets.. 1 12 ton, a 6 ton, a 3 ton and a 2 ton.

2 of the sets are in use, and the set you see there is not doing more than 'emergency' in case the timber stack under the bellhousing fialed.

I like jack stands and all.. but I do so much work on the dirt that they dig in and til when ya don't want them to. the timber stacks even it out pretty good, even if they are a bit more difficult to handle.

yep.. that second stack with the stands was just the backup.. the front timber stack of 6x6's should be waw more than fine... I just didn't want to mash myself.. :)

C dude you need to learn to take it slow and stop the back work. I use many chain hoists and com-a-longs to replace my bad back and since you let the cat out of the bag and you have heart problems do your back and heart a favor and get a chain hoist set up before you are found on your back dead. PLEASE

I use old disc blades under jacks and jackstands. They work pretty good for not letting them sink. Got a whole stack of them laying around to.

i did have my loader there with hay spear on, and chain hanging.. but could only do so much with a pice of cast iron swinging from a chain. you can probably see my 850 peeking in the back of that last photo...

even with it hanging, it was still a decent piece of iron to manhandle.

lower pedistal on the other hand.. no room for a chain or floor jack.. but a lil 4 ton bottle jack did fit under there. some cursing and it finally lifted her up so i could put the 3 nuts back on the studs, and the one stud back in that backed out.. :)

ya know.. when all this heart stuff stearted last november, I noticed my wife would periodically walk out to the shop when iw as out there working, especially if I was out there all day. she has never done this inthe 12ys we've lived there. I thought it was odd that she was walking out to see what I was doing, so asked her one day what she was curious about.

that's when she said she was coming out to make sure I wasn't keeled over. ;) does stop and make ya think for a moment.

i for sure can't do what I used to, strenght isn't there.. or back yet maybee?.. but I can still swing a hammer amd yank on a prybar... except now it peters me out in an hour or two instead of 8 or 9 :) :)

hey now.. that's a great idea. I got a pile of them too around here. One I welded in a tab inthe old square center hole and use it as a parts pan when laying under a tractor and pulling stuf off / laying tools on.. but the jack stand base is a good idea.

thanks

jack stands work great, but you have to remember that metal on metal = slippage.. wood is less likely to slip, although more likely to tip.

i think i may actually take one of my lighter sets.. the 2k or 3k set, and weld it tot he dern disc blade.. that may be the best of both worlds.. :)

Ya know what you mean about the hour or so and take a break that is one reason I can not work any more. Ya I can still do a lot but I also have to take an hour break after doing something for an hour or I will not get out of bed for a few days. Now as for putting the tractor back into one piece I understand that also since to build the BA I had it all apart including the engine which was built from used parts out of 3 other engines. The front end the block and the torque tube of the A was broken so I used those parts from a B to fix it so yep had it all over the place till the parts found there way to be one tractor with 5 ties on it

Mine don't slip, that is one thing I am VERY careful about. And, I work on concrete.
