I have a farmall H 1948 want change to a alt i hade a guy tell me today to get a one wire alt from a small import car etc so it would fit under hood any thoughts of what year car etc i should look for thanks for all the help

a delco cs130 is small and may fit under there as good as any small hitachi.

it still is a multi wire setup, and needs 15-45 ohms of resistance on it's designated exciter wire.

a lil different setup than a gm 10/12 SI.. but same idea..

You DO NOT need a small body alternator if you do it right.

A 10 SI Delco alternator WILL fit under the hood,if you do it right.

You flip the generator bracket upside down, space the alternator accordingly, and set up the top adjustment on the alternator as close to the valve cover,as needed.(To make the stock belt work out.)

I CANNOT stand the A@#HOLES who cut the hood open to clear the alternator because it was"hacked" onto their tractor!!!!

Hitachi from a 1986 Nissan D21PU is internally regulated and wires the same as a Delco 10SI. L=#1 terminal S=#2 terminal. They are a easier fit, and mega reliable. I avoid the one wire systems as they are OK if the tractor is used weekly. They keep mthe alternator "on" all the time, and draw some current when the tractor is off. Bob M diagrams number 5 and 6 detail the reality and ease of a system that works. Jim

I solved that issue by putting a switch in the line on mine. Worked great! I wired it so that I cannot get current to the started unless I flip the switch to the contact position first, so I need never worry that I might forget to turn it on and thus run the battery down. My brother handled the same issue on his a little differently, he put a dead-man switch in the hot line from the battery upstream of all other connections. Different way of reaching the same goal.

delco 121. used a 1/2" by 29 7/8" belt. Used the original genny adjust bracket turned 90 degrees and attached to thermostat front bolt. Made an "L" shaped bracket to bolt it to the alternator. Made a new bracket out of 3/8" by 3/4" stock.
