14.9-38 Tires

Hey guys! Having some trouble finding a decent set of used 12x38 deep drom rims for my MD here in central IA. Anyway, my new tires are 14.9-38 and I was wondering how they would look/fit on 11x38 rims? I have found a good set not too far from home for $250 Guy says they currently have 15.5-38 on them!

They will fit and look pretty good. I had the same setup on an M. The tire may be a little bit rounded because the sidewalls are squeezed, but mine looked real good and worked fine.

They look alright. I bought my set of 14.9s with rims, tires and centers because I figured they would be 12" rims since there were 14.9s mounted on them. They wern't but for $125 I wasn't going to argue :)

The reason you can't find them is because 0 tractors left the factory with them. If they were put on there they would be aftermarket only (from what I have been told by people who lived it back in the day)

Rims are 2 inches too narrow. They may look alright, but if you compared them side by side, one on 11 inch rim and one on 13 inch rim, you can see the difference. Also noticeable on a 12 inch. Tread would be much flatter and wider on the 13 inch rim. In the parts manual, however, IH usually lists rims one inch less than the tread width.

My 14.9s are on 12x38 rims (Super M)I personally would not go any narrower on the rims!Tread would be really rounded on the crown.

Here is a picture of my H with 14.9/38s and 10 or 11 inch rims, I can't remember. I got these tires and rims on a parts tractor and they were way better than what the H had on it when I got it which was a 13.6 that was completely bald in places (no lug left) on one side and a Wards Riverside 11.2 on the other.

I guess I thought that was the plan we were using. From what I have seen, he is farming with these things not pulling or showing. They will work and they will work for cheap. I would do it.

Finding "decent used" anything related to tires and rims is a challenge.

I think the tires will be fine on the 11" rims. Nothing disastrous will happen, for sure.

Worst case you can put them on, continue to look for wider rims, then transfer to the wider rims if/when you ever do find any.

What are you saying Sflem???That Super Ms didnt come with 38x12 rims??? I believe they DID come from IH with 12" NOT 14" wide.My Super has 12" I KNOW the 14" that fit the M thru VERY EARLY 400 hubs(6 spoke centers) are aftermarket. 14 inch wides were more common as double bevels seen on the likes of 560s.Those were factory.

Correct me if I am wrong.

You are correct, I meant 14s. 12s are around, but not on my SMTA.
