cub needle valve

Moms cub wouldn't stay running last time she tried to mow, I determined it wasn't getting fuel. Plenty of fuel coming through the line. I took the carb apart and the float was free but the needle valve would not drop with the float. I put a new one in and it does the same thing.

Did I miss some crud in the opening that is holding the needle in the opening, or is there another explanation for this. When they tried to mow today it wasn't getting fuel, Dad gave the carb a tap close to the needle and fuel would flow till the needle closed again then it wouldn't open again.

Thanks for any ideas you guys might have.Got to keep Mom happy or Dad will move in with me.

Did you change the needle AND the seat? I have seen quite a few over the years where they were not changed as a set. They need to be done together with the washer in the kits.

I think it is those viton tips. If you push them too hard into the seat, then they stick. It can happen if you adjust/bend the float with the tab pushing the needle into the seat while you are adjusting/bending it. I remove the needle, make the bend on the float tab, then reinstall the needle to see if it measures right.

If the needle will not open without tapping on the side of the carb, I would check to see if the float is rubbing on the side of the float bowl.
