Farmall Cub Update

If you recall, I had a Cub that was spitting coolant. I have let the water level go down a little (down to about 1 inch below the neck, hot), and she seems to have stopped doing that. I suspect I will have to still add some fluid every once in a while, as the tractor still loses some water going down steep hills. Thanks for everyone's advice! However, while I was checking to make sure the 7lb radiator cap wasn't on tight, I noticed that there was air coming up out of the radiator. I could put my hand over the neck and feel some air being pushed out. What does this mean? Thanks!

I listened for bubbling, but I couldn't hear any. I guess I can always bring the water level high enough to be able to see, but I've just gotten it low enough!

Check your overflow tube it should be clean as the water does expand when warm and there is no pressure in the system your Cub has and going up and down hills doesent make any difference just let the level alone as when it gets warm and expands the excess will go out the overflow and you dont need to keep adding coolant.

Use the combustion gas check system I mentioned before. It does not give false readings! It is better than causing engine damage from coolant getting into the lower end through a failing head gasket! Jim

You CAN see into the radiator. I've owned two Cubs and worked on a third.

All you have to do is get a small flashlight, shine it in, and look to the side at an angle. You can see the tops of the fins, no problem.

You can see the level of the coolant. You can see if there are bubbles coming up through.
