H Leaking OIl

Replaced the belly-pump / transmission oil seal, also the gasket, but still have a large leak. I guess maybe it's the transmission oil seal itself, above. It looks difficult, any advice??
Thanks guys.

It's not too bad, first you take the belly pump drive shaft out, and the belly pump too if you want more room. Then take out the four tapered bolts in the driveshaft and take that plate out. Then you can remove the bolt in the center and slide the collar off and remove the key and then the seal retainer can be unbolted and removed. It is not a really quick job but it's not bad.

Zachary; Got down to the bolt holding the two-bolt clamp on, and it does not come out. I cannot get it to loosen up. I'm creeping the tractor backwards 1/8" at a time. It is right-hand threads, right? Nothing tricky about it?
Thanks ahead of time. It is a straight-forward job after all.

Make sure what kind of oil it is. I replaced the seal on my lift all, but the shaft was scored enough that it still leaked a little bit. I would clean that area up good with a power washer and look for the leak.

David - Yes, the leak is coming from that bigger transmission oil seal. I cleaned it thoroughly this morinng, and could see it leaking right out. No doubt.
I am almost ready to install the new seal, but can't get that center bolt out. Nothing tricky about it, is there? It is right-hand-threads, right? Any advice?

yes, that is a RH bolt. I'd try like Janicholson said and put it in 5th gear, that should hold it pretty well, or if you have the belly pump out maybe you could get an impact in there to shake it loose. Sometimes I find that wearing a heavy glove and hitting the wrench with my open hand will jar things loose that resist steady torque.

If you can, apply some heat to the matter. Also, with stubborn bolts, try tightening first, then loosen. It works.

What Zachary says, the bolt is right hand thread. Make sure and use a 6 point impact socket on it. Mine was tight, but popped loose nicely.

(quoted from post at 20:06:13 10/31/11) Thanks guys, tomorrow morning I'm going after it again. Really appreciate it.

Let us know how you make out. I just replaced mine today also, but I was doing all the seals in the rear frame as a matter of course since I had the entire tranny and final drive out and laying on the floor, replacing all bearings, (one was bad,) and various broken parts. The parts replaced list goes like this: Both bull pinions, the counter shaft seal cover and the entire center chunk! I pulled the front gear unit, after freeing the bolt you are having so much trouble with by putting it in third gear, fifth gear and reverse all at the same time, (I have the top cover off mine,) then putting a two foot breaker bar on that sucker! Then I took the entire unit over to my press and pressed the collar off its shaft, then pulled the three small bolts out and pulled the seal cover off.
