240 utility

I am trying to locate a starter motor for a "59 240 utility. There is a Delco-Remy 6V on it with P/N1107174 and I am pretty sure it"s toast. Is there any other P/N that will match up?

If you have a good starter generator shop near by you can get a reasonable rebuild on the one you have. They were not throwaway items but are reasonably easy to rebuild. If no shop, you might look into replacing the brushes, bearing and rotor yourself. Be sure to tell the shop guy that the starter is a 6-volt because the brushes are different.

I had my starter rebuilt about 6 months ago at an auto-electric shop. Cost was about $175, but over $75 of that was installing a 12v field winding because my 240U now has a 12v system. Made all the difference in the world and I should never have to worry about it again.
