Fender Gasket's?

Working on breaking down my Super A and I think I found what appears to be fender gasket between the fender and main cast body of the tractor. Am I correct....I've looked on line to find something like it but to no avail. It was about 1/2" thick and had special cut around castings to pad the fender from the main tractor cast.....has anyone ever seen these? Can one get replacements...?

I restored my B a couple years ago and don't recall any gasket like material between the fender and the casting. I'm not saying there isn't one, I just don't remember seeing one on mine.

If you really feel one is necessary, let's say to dampen vibrations since it wouldn't serve any purpose as far as preventing leakage, you could make one from thin card-stock by tracing the pattern from the fender.

It might be easier to use 3/8" thick foam insulation, the kind with the double stick tape on one side used to help seal doors, and attach it to the casting to isolate the fender from it.

I hope all my rambling made some sense and can help.

I have disassembled a number of A's and B's/BN's. I have never seen a gasket yet, but that doesn't mean I am correct that there shouldn't be one.

I just never found one.......

On the 140s there is a felt gasket between the left side fender and the transmission case. Left side only I guess to try and dampen vibration since it is right next to the transmission. Part number 55788DA. I assume that since the 140 and the A are real close in design that the A might have had one also.

Yes, there was a felt pad between the left fender and the transmission case. It was used on the A, Super A etc. through the 140, just like Hoover913 showed. The pad was not used on the B or BN as the fender was not tight against the transmisson.

Jim, makes sense. Would make me think that the few A's I have dismantled that the felt either rotted away or was removed at some point.

From what I have seen, they are often rotted, oil soaked, with imbedded with dirt. What you find may have little remaining that resembles a felt pad, looks more like only an accumulation of debris.

There was a gasket similar to what you described on the left
side of my super a. I didn't put it back because it seemed to
me it only colected dirt and held moisture. Caused the fender
to rust more here than anywhere else.

That would explain why I didn't find one when I did my B. Good info. Thanks.

That's it....exactly. Great picture too, where would I go to order that part. Mine had that exact square cut in your picture. Thanks again....what are the other parts shown in that picture?

Yes there was a piece there to fill the void never did know just what its purpose was the dia on the other post shows the shape of it. Its pretty hard to see one on the A anymore as they have all been taken out by now.

Mine was pretty much in tacked, it was almost like the old buffalo board sheathing used on house's, dense like that. If you know where I could locate one to order I'd appreaciate it. Otherwise I may just make my own out of that type of sheathing and coated the edges with sometype of sealant to help keep it from aborsorbing moisture. Please let me know..where I could order. Thanks for your help..

When I disassembled my Super A there was the felt packing alongside the transmission as shown in the diagram from an earlier response. It is shown in the p[arts book

Number 4 is a bracket for the left fender, at the rear mounting bolt. It is only used on tractors without a PTO. With a PTO, the rear fender bolt screws into a tapped hole in the PTO housing.

If you can't find one, it looks like something
you could cut out from a rubber floor mat or bed mat.
dampens vibration and won't rot.
I routinely mount rubber pads under troublesome
vibrating body/fender parts

I wouldn't bother trying to find a new part. Odds are real good that you won't be able to find one. Not every part gets reproduced in the aftermarket, and something as odd/obscure as that won't be stocked by CaseIH.

Maybe maybe maybe you could find a NOS one at an older IH dealer.

Either leave it out or make your own. Tractor Supply has rubber matting sold by the foot that would work out well for that.

Decided to make my own from a piece of 3/4" extruded styrofoam. This shouldn't take on any moisture and will also compress enough to form a nice tight seal against the transmission. Also primed and painted it IH red so it will blend right in and basically disappear against the fender.
