Australian Farmall H Rear Tyres

My Farmall H needs new tyres. It is fitted with Australian rims and currently has 14.9-28 tyres on it. Before I spend money, hoping someone can confirm that these are or are not the correct size?
Thanks,

14.9 are to wide. In the old measurement they were 10. in the new it is 13.2 - 38.I have fitted firestone field & road to my farmall H they work well and look good. When you say Aust rims do you mean the solid centre with only one small hole cut in them? I also don"t know about 28 inch rims never seen that only 38 inch.

10 inch tread width converts to 11.2 cross section, 11 inch to 12.4, 12 inch to 13.6, 13 inch to 14.9. Yes 14.9's are way too wide for an H.

If you check the diameter of tires you will find that 14.9 x 28 almost as tall as a a 11.2 x 38 . Well almost as tall about 3 inches shorter in diameter. That would make the gears speeds a little slower than using the the 38 inch tires, unless your tractor had the W-4 rear gears in it then it would be about right.

Im afraid things here get US biased, and people dont realize where youre from. Yes, the 14.9s are too wide, IMHO, for your H. Maybe go down to 13.6s and that would look fine. Im pretty sure 10 X 28 is the original size, which according to Miller tires website, they still carry.

I ended up with a set of loaded 14.9/38s on my H and I love them, they seem to have lots of grip. They do speed it up a bit, but they are worn down pretty low so I think the effect is not as pronounced as it would be if they were new.

Thanks everyone. I have looked around and can easily buy 12.4-28 and 14.9-28 tyres. I have attached a picture of the Farmall H as it was (with heaps of extra and utterly useless iron mongery) when I bought it. It still has those tyres on it and I agree they look too big.
The advertisement that John M kindly put up here leads me to ask about the way rims were fitted. Many people say that the rims should be fitted with the 4 clamp bolts between the rim and the gearbox (as fitted to my H), but the advertisement shows them on the outside, which seems a better place - far easier to work on.

And yes, all that iron work has been removed!

Interesting, I will have to come and have a look at this, I assume you will also remove the unusual bonnet ornament as well

Looking good to check out that M on Saturday and did you see the A554 on ebay at the moment in Bendigo? I wouldn't mind having it myself if it was mechanically OK.
