Been looking for one of these for awhile now. Found one that was only an "arm" and not "arm and leg".

Tom, does that imply that you are open to requests/orders for (re)charging magneto magnets?
Nice find, anyway.
Thanks, Hendrik

Are North & South marked? You are the luckiest guy to ever walk the face of the earth. Suppose you got it at a yard sale for $1.

No, I wish I got it for $1. Paid $300 for it. Lost bidding on one over the weekend for $450.

Yes, I would be happy to charge magnets for you. No charge! (pun intended). seriously, you cover shipping, and I will be happy to charge your magnets.

I don't have it yet, still in transit. Will see if it is marked N/S. However, not a huge deal as you can determine that with the magnet before you set it on the poles.

Tom,

Interesting find! I bought a similar charger about 20 years ago and have only played with it a few times. Manufactured originally by H. G. Makelim Co., San Francisco CA. Cost then less than $50 from an individual. I did not get the blocks with mine either. If someone out there has a set of blocks that could be used to draw a plan for a shop to machine a set, I would be interested. Magnet chargeing instructions would also be very valuable.

Centex, I had fully intended to build one. Pulled the plans from the internet, checked on component availability, etc. etc.

I paid $300 for this plus shipping. My component list, buying the magnet wire, low carbon 2" round iron stock, and a few more of the components, I almost had $250 in parts. That did NOT include any labor if I wanted the cores professionally wound.

bottom line, if you are going to build a quality one, you won't do it for much less than what I paid for this one. Unless of course you have the components sitting around that you picked up as scrap........

I have a Wiedenhoff magneto charger and use it when charging magnetos on my flywheel gas engines. Instructions for the Makelim charger as I recall are posted on line -may just be a Makelim catalog. I do also have the charging blocks for doing magneto armatures.
Drop me a note and I'll try to get some pictures and measurements.
I also have an old Wiedenhoff test bench that I'm still learning how to use. Wish I had instructions for it!
