806 engine noise

i have a 806 gas that i had to buy a complete engine for. i have adjusted the rocker arms according to the I.T. manual and it still sounds like their is a noisy rocker. any ideas of what i should do next? this engine holds vary good oil presser and runs like a top. it runs from 500 to 2400 rpm with no problem.

when adjusting the valves you need to pay attention to the ware on the rocker arm as they do not ware even and there is always a little rocker arm hanging over the valve stem and when you stick the feeler gauge between the rocker arm and the valve stem you get a bridging and this will throw your set off and you will have a few loose ones . So go back over them again and look real close and you will see what is going on . Now IF you get it down and ya still have noise then you may have a guide issue . Also take a long handle screw driver and place the end against the block by each piston and put your ear to the handle and listen you may also be hearing piston slap .

I don't know for sure about your Farmall but in the old days of solid lifter car engines it was a common trick to find out how much adjustment in turns on the adjusting screw it took to get the desired clearance with a feeler guage then on the ones with the worn rockers just adjust them the same amount. I. E. tighten down until the clearance is gone (No click) then loosen the same amount and lock 'er up.
