puting a new voltage regulator on my H is it a good idea to check the point clearence on a regulator if so what is the factory settings I know the voltage should be between 10 to 12 volts when charging. THANKS

I don't know the specs. My opinion is if it works leave it alone. You might do more harm than good. But, if it does not work you probably have nothing to lose. I don't believe I have ever tried to adjust one.

You don't adjust point gaps on voltgage regulators as the points are always closed when not running. You can adjust the armature air gap but that is not necessary unless you have had them apart. You adjust spring tension on hanger to change voltage settings. The cut out portion of the regulator does have points that are open but they do not affect the charging voltage, only cut in and out readings. And, normal running voltage on 12 volts system is above 12.8 to 14- 14.5. with the lower reading being a low battery taking a heavy charge and high reading being full charged good battery. Better not to mess with it until you know you have a problem.

Believe what Pete 23 is saying, CNKS as well, Adjustment is possible, but requires substantial test equipment and concrete understanding of the arcane workings of the device. A normal good 12v battery will show 12.5 to 12.6 volts just sitting there. It will not be charged by 10 to 12 volts. Find a 1955 automotive electrical systems text and read read read. Best of luck, Jim
