650 vs. 600

I have a 650 now and a opportunity to buy a 600 diesel looking to go all out on restoration on one of them..Is the 600 worth considerably more for the extra effort $$$ wise (apples to apples) Thanks in advance...

Restored diesel is worth more than gas, but if you are looking to sell either and get your money back it won't happen.

A 600G is worth considerably more than a 600D simply because of its rarity. And that is the crux of the situation. One has to buy rarities to come out ahead in the antique tractor hobby. 600D's are not rare, not even very useful for most.

Could be. Guy Fay's book does not give the breakdown of gas vs diesels, but it was printed in 1997 -- more info since then, that I do not have. About 1500 600's built vs around 5000 650's. I should learn not to comment on tractors I am not familiar with, such as standards or wheatlands. However I will stand by the statement that he is not likley to make a profit on either one.

for sure the 600 gas is the valuable one.the diesels sell from 2500.00-4ooo.00 around here. gas would be more if there is collectors after it.my friend bought a restored super wd9 this spring for 13,500.00.they are a nice tractor but parts are very hard to come by and expensive.

i said it was restored, which means fully and you can put that much into them.i dont count a painted tractor restored, even most times the paint hurts the sale when its a slop job.collectors want original, original or showroom condition.painting is the last thing to worry about. do you have any 600-650 gas models?

The former President of the New England Chapter of IH Collectors had been hankering for a 600G for years and finally found one in Western Canada about six/seven years ago.

Don't know what he paid for it, but after the nice restoration that he did, I think it might be worth around $20,000. He told me that only 30 were built.

There have been some threads on the Red Power Forum about the scarce availability of this model.

last fall a nice original 600gas brought $20000.at farm aution in NDak. Word after sale was the man that bought already had one, now has two. I would like to find a dead one that could be restored. Not for that kind of money.

Where do you guys get that the 600 is a gas? Is states right in the original post that it is a 600 diesel. I bolded it up above.

Anyhow, the 600 is more rare than the 650 because there were less made. IIRC it was only made for a year maybe 2. I was talking to a guy at the Sycamore Steam Show that had a 650, 600, and WD-9 at the show about produciton and that is what I remembered. Maybe the serial number list will be more helpful?
