H Carb Setting

I've set my H carb like this;
Idle fuel mixture, 1/2 turn open, although my IH manual says to start with 1 - 1 1/2 TO.
Main fuel adjusting screw; 1 1/2 TO, instead of the 3 TO.
What do you guys have your carbs set at?

Not so sure I can tell much difference, but when I use the procedure in the official IH manual, adjustingin and out, noiticing the engine speed, that's what I come up withj.
But I was curious, what do you guys have yours set at??

I set mine at the original settings, then adjusted them for optimum performance. I would have to go out and check them to find out where they ended up. I was able to turn them in quite a bit when I corrected ignition problems that required a richer mixture. I do not remember if they were further out before that.

Read further. The manual gives a starting point so that it will run. When the engine is warm and at wide open throttle turn the main jet screw in until it starts running rough, then out until smooth, maybe 1/4-1/2 more turn out (better slightly lean than rather than rich), then move the idle jet out and in at low idle until smooth. Rapidly move the throttle to WOT, it should accelerate smoothly with no roughness. If it doesn't repeat the process until it does. If it does not behave you need to overhaul the carb. Makes no difference where others are set. Just follow the procedure--this procedure is better worded in the Operators manual.

you need the main valve at least 2 1/2 turns out. pulling an implement she will be running lean.idle mixture about 3/4 out.this is where i run mine.

Differences between engines, include bore, piston type, age, ring rear. Gasoline or Distillate, who rebuilt the carb with who's rebuild kit, the float setting, type and octane of fuel, and temperature. There is no real value in where they are on different tractors.
Interesting question though. Jim

Settings vary according as to whether your running it down main street in the parade, or whether your out in a field pulling a 2 14 plow, or 16ft disc.

I set the power valve on mine so it will not sputter when I go from low throttle to high, then fine tune it with pulling hard. It is running very well now.
