706 head gasket

Recently I bought a early 706 diesel w/ the 282 motor. Noticed a very small amount of oil leaking from between the head and block after its warmed up. Assuming it needs a head gasket. No bubbles in the radiator or other symptoms. Any thoughts or ideas wouid be appreciated. Thank You!

Are you real sure it's not coming from out of the exhaust? Diesels will slobber if not worked.

That 282D is a darned good engine.

Dont mess with it!!Run it till you KNOW that there is a problem. As Allen says, could just be raw diesel from prolonged idleing.Get it good and hot-work the snot out it for a while.Steve

RUN it , don't go messen with it till she is really bad. More then likely she has been turned up a bit and it may be seeping . If you think your going to get by with just putting in a new head gskt . that ain't ah going to happen .You will probably find that the head will need machined down to get it flat . And with out milling the head a new gskt . will not solve anything other them time waisted .

Ditto. Don't fiddle with it. I fiddled with mine by simply torquing the headbolts to specification; I got lucky, and it stopped seeping....as much!

Dad always said you can buy a lot of oil for the cost of rebuilding an engine. If there is no coolant in the oil and vice/versa like the experts here have said, run it.
