IH didn't make a 506 in the USA, but it is possible that the tractors are imports from another country. You'll find all sorts of weird model numbers on foreign-built tractors... Like 1056 or 696 for example.

Even then, there may not be a 506.

These could very well be Frankentractors, built from parts of two or more different tractors. Some collectors will go to great lengths to make their creations look genuine.

506, could be a 504 rear end somehow joined to a 460 front end with the 504's hood stretched over the engine.

Pictures, if you can get them. We can debunk this pretty easy then.

The 504 was a derivative of the A/B/C/Super series. The 460 was a derivative of the H/Super H. Joining a 504 rear to a 460 front would require lots of adaptation.

606 is the six cylinder version of the 504. I believe everything else is the same on the two tractors and that includes the hood. I also think that all 606 were wide front. Probably find more 2606 than 606. That model is kinda rare around here.

Wardner, I always thought the 606 was basically the 460 Utility, with an '06 hood. Same basic rear end as a 460 Farmall, not the 340.

Those C221 gassers can be pretty gutless but it's way more than a glorified Super C rear end can take...

Well, mkirsch,

you got me stumped on that one. As far as I know, there is little difference between the 340, 504, 460, and 606 rear ends. And I suspect there many similarities, and parts, all the way to 686 but I ain't going to do the research at CaseIH.com. Of the tractors I own, I only have a 504 in the above group.

I welcome any authoritative corrections to that statement.

I have a F504D which is a D188 and it is a little gutless too. But makes a good loader tractor.

506... Made me look too!

Transmission wise, the 504 is not a derivative of the A/B/C/Super series. It had a C-153 sleeveless gas engine that was basically a sleeveless 123. The transmission was basically a 460 rear end. A 504 engine would bolt to a 460 rear with no modifications.

Hmm, you learn something new every day.

I always thought that the 340 was an all-new design. Basically a Super C rear end with IPTO and TA added.

404 was the model that followed the C thru 240, but had a C-135 instead of the C123 in the SC thru 240. Still had the same standard 4 speed trans, if I'm not mistaken.
