I would like to convert my 300 utility exhaust from the botom to come out thetop. I know bottom is correct, but I worry about starting fires if the tractor stops over dried windrows when raking. Anyone have a easy way yo do this or some sort of adapter?

thanks

My pop's tractor is vertical (like to convert it to lower someday). If you take the left hood panel off you will see that attached to the manifold is a 90 degree elbow. Soak and I mean soak the 2 bolts with PB Blaster, ATF, any kind of penetrating oil or magic witch potion (personally don't use WD-40, don't think it does much) for many days to weeks. Remove the bolts and invert the elbow. Cut a hole in the sheet metal and attach a muffler. You may need to cut some pipe and/or weld some pipe but that is the jist of it.

Hi Chrism, we had a 300U with underslung exhaust and a JD 420U with upright exhaust. On 300U during haying season we would install a curved pipe on the end of the tail pipe to blow the exhaust towards the left rear wheel away from the dry hay and never had a problem. But on JD, I burnt a load of bales one time with the upright exhaust. Then we bought a horizontal muffler for the JD to use during hay season.
Previous post is correct about exhaust port on manifold can be remove and flipped upright.

300U came with either exhaust system, both of mine are through the hood but I have had others with the down pipes too. I think I have a hood with the cut out too.

the owners manual for my 350u has a diagram to copy and lay out over the left hook panel to cut a hole for a verticle exaust

i did mine about a year ago, like it alot and cutting the hole wasnt a biggie.
