Fuel tank fittings

Over the years I have not had much luck removing brass fittings/bowl from fuel tanks without breaking them. Do you guys have a trick you would share? Thanks oldiron29

Well, all the ones I have done over the years were on old, dry tanks. I use a propane torch to heat them and Kroil (or your fav penetrating oil). I am not 100% successful, but I get more off than I break. Brass and steel expand at different rates, so heat is your friend here. Also, they can have years of varnish on them which doesn't help matters. Heat melts/burns off that issue as well.

I have also welded fuel tanks. I fill them with water to remove all fuel vapors, then drain. Heat and fuel tanks are not the disaster waiting to happen if done properly. If not done properly, you WILL get hurt.
