I have a chance to buy a super A. The motor is stuck , but it has a woods belly mower and newer tires. Tin looks good. My question is will must of the parts from a super fit an A? I have a great running A but would like to make a far offer if the parts would work. Also would around 600. be fair or insulting as an offer?

Thanks for your time
Todd

There are some parts that are interchangeable between an A and a Super A, but also many that are not. To give a good answer, you would have to be specific.

Everybody will see it differently, but to me, $600.00 for a Super A with a stuck motor is generous. Some motors get unstuck easily, some require extensive (and expensive) work to get them running. Hard to tell without opening it up to see.

I bought my Super A a couple of years ago for $550. I got the engine to run after a carb rebuild, and then had a neighbor offer $600 for the Woods belly mower. All in all, not a bad deal.

Do they know why it's stuck ? What area are you in ? with the mower (if it's any good) 600 sounds fair to me. My Super A was stuck due to it sitting outside. A couple of Months soaking with A/T fluid free'd it up just fine. Any other attachments?

Some of the Super A's had the 354898R2 block and used thicker sleeves to keep the C113cid engine and some had thinner sleeves so you could get 123cid. They could also take an overbore kit to boost the cid to 133cid. No machining is required.

The A'a used a shorter sleeve that measured 6-7/8" in length and had a smaller diameter at the sleeve seal . I don't think the A parts will that block if the block has 354898R1 or R2.

You can drive out those sleeves with a piece of 2 X 2 oak and big hammer. Unbolt the connecting rods and tap on them. You can use heat to remove the pistons once the sleeves are out Clean that block thoroughly where the seals are installed. You probably should have the crankshaft measured for wear at your local auto machine shop. Buy your new bearings from them.
Do a valve job and it will last another 50 years with good care. Hal

Not sure way it is stuck. Only has has the belly mower. I have no need for the tractor tires since my a has turf tires. I am only interested in the mowers. but offering him around 700.00 He says tires are brand new but I am thinking why new tires on a stuck tractor. Just trying to pick you guys brain.

Thanks

Todd
