656 overheating

I think the problem may have fixed itself. I started her up again yesterday and opened the throttle up a little more and the temperature gage stayed right in the middle. I let her run for about 20 minutes and the temp. gage stayed right in the middle the whole time. So, I'm thinking the temp gage is ok and the thermostat was stuck before and that it finally opened (the temp. gage pegged after 10 minutes running the day before). Does this sound right or possible?

And now another problem! During all of this the AMP light came on and now stays on all the time. I took the alternator off and took it to a shop to be tested and it tested bad - putting out only 12 amps. So, am waiting to have that repaired -- won't be done until late monday.

I think you had air in the system, and when you shut it off hot then the thermostat heat soaked, opened and let the air out. The bulb on a temp gauge and some times the thermostat will not read in steam, but fixes itself after sitting.

Thanks guys. I was wondering if it could have been air trapped. I'm glad I didn't go to the trouble of changing the thermostat.
