Gas tank liner

Hey guys! I bought the Kreem brand fuel tank liner kit to try on the starter tank for my MD. It was badly rusted and had some pinholes rusted through the bottom....needless to say, all the tankprep A leaked out the bottom of the tank within an hour or two and the tank is still all rusty. Obviously I can't go on the tankprep B. What should I do now or do you know of any liner kits that actually work??? Thanks!

I had a gas tank on a '49 Case full of pinholes. I used electrical tape over the bigger leaks while I preped the tank. I used POR-15 to fix my tank, that was 9 years ago and it still looks like the day I did it.

They all have some sort of preparation liquid that needs to stay in the tank for a period of time... If you're not going to plug the holes so it can't leak out NONE of them are gonna work...

I'd go back to Kreem and see if you can get more of just the A part. Sometimes it's cheaper just to get another kit, though.

My Dad used the POR15 kit on his 400's tank and it seems to be holding up well.

Might be time to start hunting for another tank. Either that, or cut the bottom off and fabricate a new piece.

Clean off the bottom really well and use JB Weld. Let it sit a few days. Friends 450 has been this way for the past ten years and still does not leak. Put an inline filter to keep the rust from getting into the carb. my 2 cents.

or..........never tried it but thought about it. Try dipping the bottom or painting the bottom with that liquid rubber they sell to dip the handles of your hand tools in. I do not know if it will work, but thought it would be worth a try. Good Luck

I won't swear to it but I if I recall the tank prep A was muratic acid.

If you google it they say you can use a 10% solution of muriatic acid in place of the tank prep A. The stuff you get at the hardware is 20% check the label a dilute with water as needed. Put the whole tank in a plastic bucket, remove any petcocks or non steel items as they will dissolve.

if you need a tank i will check to see how many i have on hand if i have a good one i will take 50 and shipping does yours have straps that hold it on or does it have the mounting bracket welded to it

Google a product called Kwik Poly, it has a wide variety of uses, makes a fantastic tank liner. I have used if for years on rusty gas and diesel tanks, no problems, it doesn't have to be clean, just dry. A friend even cast a breaker point arm with the stuff once, worked fine.

Kreem is about the worst of all the tank liners. Northern Fuel Tank Liner/RedKote would probably seal up the holes. If it didn't right away the second coat would.

I'll keep that in mind...my bracket is welded on. I have a buddy that does alot of motorcycle tanks and is going to give me some Por15; he likes it the best. Got some fuel tank epoxy to try and seal the outside bottom first.
