I have a problem with our 1066. When I push the left brake the tractor stops completely, the right rear wheel dosen"t pull. What could be the cause of this? The tractor will pull itself if the brakes are not applied. All replys appreciated.

One possibility is a worn out MCV pump or a leak in the TA circuit and a TA with the low side out. Applying the brakes take 1 GPM flow from the TA circuit. That may be enough to cause the clutch apply pressure in the TA to drop off and if the mechanical clutch in the low side of the TA is worn out the tractor will stop as the hydraulic clutch in the TA loses pressure and slips.

(quoted from post at 08:16:00 10/07/11) Thanks Owen. The tractor dosen"t have a TA. How could one tell if the MCV pump is worn?

Poor steering at idle is usually the first indication of MCV pump problems. If you don't have a TA then the MCV pump is not part of the problem. Without a TA everything is just mechanical drive.

Does the tractor have a differential lock? Does it pull OK when you are not using the brakes? Does the right brake also cause the tractor to stop?

Does the tractor REALLY not have a TA, or did someone just remove the lever?

Because, the behavior you describe is impossible without a TA unless you have some serious differential problems.

On true TA-delete tractors, there is a solid shaft running through the TA housing. Nothing hydraulic.

If your tractor is a true TA-delete, then your differential is wrecked.

Dad bought the tractor new in December of 1971 and it is a factory delete TA. In mud when you lock one brake up the tractor quits pulling. Dad drove the tractor all day on dry ground and it did fine.
The rear end has never been opened up

If you hooked it to a 15 foot disk would it pull it?
Hydro issues are very different from manual gear box tractors. If it is a hydro, Allen or others will give opinions that make a difference. Jim

it's been pulling a dike plow tearing down irrigation dikes in soybean fields today with no problems. Yes I think it would pull a 15 ft disk. It just quits pulling when you lock one brake up in the mud. It's not a hydro model.

If it stops cold, and the engine pulls down a little when the brake is mashed, I believe the clutch is toast. If it were a Hydro, or had a TA, it might exhibit the problem from locking clutches in the TA, or weak pumps/motors in the hydro system, or pressure issues in control. But a clutch is the only link that slips in a gear drive non TA tractor. Jim
