I have a 706 with a 291 gas engine. Was cutting wood the other day, I went to pull a large tree the tractor jerked a bit and died. I quickly realized the battery slid a bit, the positive battery post grounded out to the gas tank. I pulled the battery away and the tractor started right back up. the AMP light is now on all the time and the tractor is not charging. Any idea what might have fried? Thanks for your help!

Early s.n. with generator or later s.n. with alternator?

(BTW, sounds like you were lucky not to have a fire or explosion!)

I would have the alt. and the reg checked . And you can count your lucky stars that she did not blow a hole thru the tank . That happened to a 706 over this way and it was a diesel and it went up in smoke , had it been a gasser i do believe that there would have been a big hole where it was. .

I would check the alternator wiring harness. With the positive post shorted to ground the output wire from the alternator is also grounded. You may have damaged wiring inside the harness.

I turned the battery around once in a 706 so the neg. was next to the gas tank. I did not like the looks of the pos. next to the tank.
