Oil from filter housing

Plan on changing the oil anyway, but, on my 53 Super C, it started to steam a bit out the breather and some oil oozed out the top of the filter housing. Is the filter clogged? All I was doing was moving a 2 bottom on steel...not plowing.

Thanks!

Top of filter housing may be damaged or the copper ring that's supposed to be between the head of the bolt and the cannister may be missing or damaged.

I once went to service a 560diesel.all the filter elements were GONE!The (dairy)farmer said he had bought the tractor 4or 5 years earlier and had never serviced it before.

Common complaint on older tractors leaking canister at top or boottom, bottom just needs new square seal o-ring, top is a little more complicated, remember how many times we all have a leak and give it just a little more, well our little more will bend the can down where it mates with the bolt, the brass ring/washer must have a flat area to seal against on both the can & the bolt surface.

Too true, did that to our Farmall M when I was twelve or thirteen years old. Seem to remember my Dad wasn't exactly entertained…

a small o-ring at the top works too.
(leave the copper washer there too)
Pick an o-ring size that is difficult
to get over the step in the bolt.
tighten down gently
no leaks on the 'problem' seepers
