steady stream of gas was running out of carburetor. It appears to coming out of main fuel adjusting screw. carburetor has not had any recent service. Any advice would be appreciated.

Shut your gas off at the tank. Take your carb off and clean it. You must have dirt in the carb stopping the float from shutting off the gas. Hope this helps. Kent

Time for a needle and seat. You could have some debris inside next to the needle valve, but I would do a gasket set. The needle and seat come with them. Tractor Supply for about 28 bucks.

While you have it apart, check to make sure the float is intact an not sinking from a hole in it or a crack.

That main adjusting screw has a packing. Try tightening the brass packing nut. If that doesn't work, you need to replace the packing.

The carb kit you might find at your local farm store DOES NOT include that packing, and the instruction sheet is also worthless.

(quoted from post at 06:37:23 10/06/11) I had to go to Case/IH to get the right packing for my super H. The others were JUNK. Worked perfect.

If you're talking about that fuzzy little piece of felt with the hole in the middle, that is NOT a packing. It is intended to be a dust seal for the choke shaft, but it ain't much good for that either. The kits I sell include the packing, and it is identical to what Case-IH sells. I have compared them side by side.

Smack the carb body with the back end of a medium sized screwdriver. If it doesn't stop running out then close the tank valve and rebuild the carb.

Even IF the needle valve is fully functional, gas will still drip out of the main adjusting screw IF that packing is bad.
