H Won't Fire

Haave rebuilt the starter, new plugs, new condenser and points, PB'lasted everything, wire-brushed everything, rebuilt the carb, steamed out and red-koted the gas tank, etc.
The starter REALLY spins the motor, like never before. But no fire.
I put all the wiring back correctly as far as I could, I had it all labeled, but i think I missed something.
The main symptom is the ammeter needle does not move; not when I pull out the start button, and not when I spin the starter.
My memory is that the ammeter needle used to slightly move left when I pulled out the start button, and it jumped when I cranked. Now nothing, needle sits there. Fuse is OK.
Any thoughts?
Thanks guys.

Try running a jumper wire straight to the ignition (-) side of the coil & hit the starter & see if it will start, this will eliminate any points, condenser, timing issues.
If it starts don't run it very long this is just a test. If it starts fine with the jumper wire, you have wiring issues. No power to the coil.
If it will not fire with the jumoper wire you have distributor problems.

sounds like you have a bad electrical connection some where, take a test light and check your switch first,if it doesn't have any electricity open the box and check the wires back to the amp gauge all the way back to the starter switch you should be able to locate it.

I agree the issue could be anything from the points having a film on them, to a bad wire, connection, or switch. Check each point from the supply wire on the starter switch, through the points you will find a non conductor in there somewhere. Jim

if you have a check light or voltmeter, turn on the ignition switch; you should have 6 or 12 volts (whichever system you have) at the coil. if not you have a bad connection, switch etc.

if you have voltage at the coil, you could need a set of points, or ignition coil.

to test the coil remove the short wire going to the distributor, from the distributor.
remove the lead wire going from coil to the distributor, replace it with a spark plug wire and insert spark plug and ground the spark plug.
then be sure that switch is on and drag the short distributor wire across ground. if coil is good, you should get a spark across spark plug.

hope this helps
