tires inflated with ether

I mounted my radial tires on my 20 wide rims today. I couldn't get them to bead, so after watching inflation with starting fluid on ytube i gave it a try. It really wasn't that scarey, and worked pretty good. Here are a few pics.

KENNELL...(1)...any inflated tire/rim assembly is just a bomb that hasn't exploded yet

(2) ETHER is E-X-P-L-O-S-I-V-E!!

(3) Had a fellow co-worker lose his life when inflating a rear tire assembly for an 8N Ford...it TOOK HIS FACE OFF...and a year later his widow took her own life. I say that that one tire took the life of two people. He was a very careful, considerate tire technician, and NOBODY knows what happened. No ether used...tire had a new tube.

(4) You were LUCKY

I do NOT stand in front of a tire being aired up. I do NOT start inflating a tire if it is laying flat...the full force of explosion is straight up!!...and I &^%$% SURE don't use ETHER or gasoline, or any other type of explosive!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't ever do that again!!

Ah but all it takes is doing it one time to many and then you end up in a casket with a closed lid due to the fact you where burned so bad no one could tell you where human. Yes I have done it many times and know the right way if there is a right way to do it. It is not something a novice should even try to do and even then a person who has done it 100 times it gambling at best it is just plain and simple no a safe thing to do. Yep seen what can happen if you make a simple mistake and seen more then one person die from trying it

I have seen it done many times without incident growing up..

However, a few years back at work I watched a truck driver singe every hair on his face doing that.. Could have been much much worse, Luckily it wasn't.

I'll never do it after seeing that

Sometimes Ether is the only good/reasonable way to mount a tire. Ever tried to mount a 20 or 26 ply log skidder tire in the woods when its -30*F out? Only way to mount it is with a fresh can of ether. Been doing it for many years and never had a problem. I do it carefully and cautiously. One of the keys IME is a fresh can of ether as it ignites faster and cleaner, once the can is used a little then its potency goes down and will sometimes not light. Also if you try it once and it doesn't work then let the tire sit overnight before trying again.

Also you can do the igniting from a distance. Strike anywhere matches can be thrown a good distance and ignite the ether from afar.

Use all of this at your own risk. If your not comfortable with it then don't do it.

thats what tire cages are for I have seen first hand 22in tires with split rims let go and took out 4ftx4ft cement block wall what a noise.

I know it's deadly, but local welder used to inject a little acetylene and oxygen mix out of his cutting torch, into tires and light it off. Saisd it worked fine.
He also built several potato guns that would fire a long ways.

Hey i'm a Canadian. I had my propane torch duck taped to the blade of my hockey stick for igniting the ether. I was eight feet away when it poped. I didn't stand beside the sucker. Thanks Kent
