Hey guys,

I bought my gauges back in late Febuary of this year from O.E.M maufacturing For My 53 Super M.I believe I installed them in April, replacing my aftermarket Mallory gauges that lasted several years!!!!(They were the old ones out of my race car and worked great !!!.)
The new O.E.M temp gauge has always looked like it reads low to me,Kinda hard to tell because now it just has a "range" now of cold/run/hot and stays to the higher side of the "cold ALL THE TIME !!!! During ALL of summer! The old Mallory gauge read correctly. It might have made it to 190 degrees on a few hot days?

And as of this weekend,The oil pressure gauge stays in the top end of the high side of the gauge ALL THE time while running, when you shut it off,it does zero out again.Iknow for a fact my engine was always at 50 psi cold on the old gauge and that was the highest it would EVER get!!!(It would drop back to 30 psi after warmed up and at idle.It holds good oil pressure.)

Has anybody else had any kind of luck out of thier O.E.M gauges ????

Sounds like you bought the low pressure gauge which I think is a 45#, you need the 75#

I think the temp should be low in the green and midway or so working

As for me i am loosen faith in these after market parts. They my look good but they are not of the quality that the Org. ones . Just like 99.9 % of the import stuff.

The Super m gauges are not marked in the #45 or #75 PSI Kevin. They just have a LOW and HIGH range, but the needle is staying at the highest point of the high section all the time it is running !!!!it will zero out when shut off. It seems like the gauge has "let go" inside,or something????

I agree with Kevin, I have them on 3 tractors and believe them to be correct. One oil pressure gauge did stick at operating pressure though and did not come down. I recently put the correct temp gauge on a 350 I just bought, it barely moves, but I may have other problems, and really have not had it under load. As to temperature and anything else you need to get the part numbers out of the parts book because both the temperature and oil pressure gauges come in different ranges. All letter series tractors take a LONG time to get up to temperature operating range and probably never will unless under load. Back in the 50's our H would run at the edge of the red when fully loaded, and barely get into the green when lightly loaded when cultivating. The ones you took off may or may not have had the correct range. OEM's are probably as good as anyones -- I imagine they all come from the same place.

They are not marked, but as I said above they came in different ranges. You have to look at the part number stamped on the gauge (and hope that OEM got it right). If an oil pressure gage it shold show reduced pressure when idling as opposed to full rpm. If you have the correct gauge according to the part number on the gauge and it does not move at all, then and only then will I blame the gauge. I do have a non colored oil pressure gauge on an H that does that. It is definitely either not working right or the wrong range.

I bought an amp gauge from them this year that was dead out of the box. I'm not sure where they get them. I've bought several parts from different places that came "made in India".

They are not marked!!!! I know that. There are 2 ranges and if you idle at 50# the low range gauge will always be pegged out!!!

The OP mentioned the temp running low. Thanks for posting the range as that will put 180° at the bottom of the green band.

Having grew up on these farmalls I just accept where normal run is.

He's trying to tell you that one gauge part number is calibrated to peg at 45PSI and the other is calibrated to peg at 75PSI.

OEM doesn't make their own gauges. They are the same gauges you will get anywhere else, even the IH dealer.

IH doesn't make their own parts anymore; they source them from the same parts suppliers as the aftermarket. The only difference is the "CNH" logo on the package, and the price.

Mike,

Thru the years my H temp gauge has always been at the high side of Cool or low side of Run. It's normal. It's hard to get an H to run very hot, even under load. I plow with it and it runs about the same as tooling down the road.

My oil pressure gauge always pegs to the right. I put on a different IH gauge to compare and it ran all the way to the right also.

Going back to the 1950s and driving several H and M Farmalls, I feel that you have a perfectly operating H Farmall.

Over here in Belgium,Europe we had to deal with the same bad China made gauges and they are still sold also over here.Last year also on my request and many other Farmall felllow,a guy over here who has specialized in gauges, had made 200 IH 67135D temperature gauges in terrific quality and appearance.Defintly not the ebay junk. They are in our tractors now and work perfect and accurate. It was a one time run since he specialized in European tractor gauges 60mm oil and amperegauges. Also the amp.gauge and oil gauges were great. My 2 cents to the subject....Dont know if he ships to USA but speaks English very well...

I have the same problem i put a new temp gauge on my 47 M last year.It lasted 2 days now it wont even come off the low side of cold. BYE BYE 75.00 bucks.

I know that the authenticity cops would rake me over the coals on this one but ...

The gauges on my H where beyond any repair and just could not see spending 75 bux for a replica.

I replaced mine with the Sunpro mechanical gauge and they also includes a backlit display. I am still 6 volt and finding a 6 volt bulb is still possible. These gauges will fit right into the hole and work with no questions asked.

Maybe once I finish this restoration off finally I will sweat the details but my point being: These only cost 20 bux and worked great for me.

Yea,That was the cool thing about my mallory gauges. They were back lit.I mow a night alot and could alway glance at them.

I wished someone made the IH gauges that lit up.
