Identify IHC Tractor

I own a tractor that I think is an IHC B250, 275, or something else. I do not know how to identify the unit. The number on the chasis by the transmission is 703955R1.

The engine block number is 703826R1. The engine is an IHC 4 cylinder diesel.

The starter appears to have failed and needs replacing or rebuilding.

Anyone have information on this type of tractor?

Thanks in advance

Eric

ERIC...Can you post a few pictures of your tractor? There are some real sharp eyed guys here that could probably quickly tell you what you've got.

Good luck!

Here are photos of the tractor. I tried adding them to the email earlier with no luck. Maybe it will work this time.

Cheers

Thank you Jim. Any idea how to tell wht year the tractor might be. I understand the serial number should provide that information except I can not find it. One of the other replies said the numbers I collected are chasis and parts numbers. Would you know where the serial number is one the unit. I have had this tractor over 10 years and replaced the battery once and the glow plugs once. Never had a problem with anything else. Excet now the starter. Any idea where to find a starter or some kind of rebuild kit fora 50 or so year old tractor???

ps, yes the tractor does have a 5 speed transmission. You do know your tractors. Thanks again Jim.

Hi Eric, there should be a serial number plate on the right side of the torque tube, between brake pedal and bell housing. Engine serial should be stamped on right side of block, to right and above oil filter by hydraulic pump. You can check serial numbers on this site by using Serial Number link in left pane.
I looked on caseih.com parts and there was no parts online for B250 but B275 was online which should have the same starter.
Starter 12V 704447R92 is obsolete and can been replaced by 704447R95, probably equivalent Delco Remy.
I rebuild a similar starter for a B414 about 40 years ago, very simple starter, switch, brushes, bushings and drive gear.

BTW the other difference between B250 and B275, B275 had live PTO with 2 stage clutch and latter B275s had CAV fuel injection pump.

Good luck

Thanks so much Jim for all the information I received from you and others that have been so helpful. What a wonderful website.

I will go serial number hunting tomorrow.

Hi Eric,
Could you please post a picture of the existing starter? I am curious as I don't see the starter handle at the bottom of the dash. Maybe someone has already substituted a replacement starter.
Zoom in on my B250 and you can see the original starter with the starter engagement handle going back to bottom of dash panel by gear shift.

Hi Jim. Thank you for the phot of your tractor. It is absolutely gorgeous. My tractor does have a starter handle at the lower left side of the dash. It is a rod that connects to the starter and pushes a button system on the starter. I will ad a photo of the starter.

Cheers

Hi guys. I am still trying to identify my tractor (now believed to be an IH B250 based on feedback).
I went looking for the serial number which is apparently on a plate between the brake pedal and the bell housing. No plate or number that I could see. I also noticed this tractor was yellow prior to the current red paint if that means anything. The engine block number above the oil filter is 703826R4. The number on the starter that I need to rebuild or replace is 272250 with a logo that looks like Qualcas??. (see previous photo)
Not having much luck with this unit. I could take more photos if that helps anyone help me figure out this tractor or maybe some kind of hybrid.

Cheers

Eric, I made a grammatical error in my sentence, I meant to say my photo of a B250 instead of my B250.
The photo was taken at a farm show a couple of weeks ago. The owner was not around, just a retired farmer that I could reminisce about driving a B250.

Yes, that is the correct starter.
