The H I am trying to restore is currently leaking antifreeze out of the fan assembly between the generator pulley and the water pump casting. Is that a simple fix by tightening the packing nut, or by adding some packing?

Tightening it is the first answer. Do not just crank down on the gland nut, turn it one flat at a time till it stops leaking. Over tightening will make heat and be a disaster. If it will not tighten, it will need repacking. Graphite embedded packing from the hdware store works. Jim

How do you get in there to tighten the nut,mine is doing the same thing. Thanks Bill

I took the radiator off. It is an inconvience but I wasn't for sure if tightening the nut would do the job.
Matthew if you tighten it up and it don't quit leaking just get some of the graphite string and wrap some around the shaft and put the nut back on. That will stop the leak and you won't have to dig all the old out and fight to get the new back in. I did that on my M 20 years ago and it is still OK.
