The data books (Guy Fay and Ken Updike) indicate the first ones were built it 1948, yours is the 801th built, perhaps in the first few days. I have no explanation for the lack of indentations on the axle housing. The casting code is Oct 28, 1947 (Q) which fits in with the 1948 assembly. Some will say that it was assembled in 1947, but the serial lists are for the calendar year, I won't argue about it.

1301 was assembled in month 2 of 48. Probably the letter Q for a date code on castings. Some of the parts were cast in 47. Does the tractor have longer axles than standard?
Jim Becker is correct, I put the month down wrong.

That is the way the early axles all were made. There was no big notch for the axle clamps, just the smaller index notches. Later axle clamps had a cast slug that fits the later style axle housings. We had to knock the slug out to use them on early tractors. The first production C (number 501) was built on January 20, 1948. There was no foundry at Louisville at that time. All castings were hauled in from somewhere else. So there are a lot of "Q" date codes on early tractors. All the codes you read as "O" are no doubt "Q". The first tractor built in March was 1118 so 1301 was built in March.

(The first 81 Super As were built in December '47.)
