Starter may be stuck locking engine. Grab fan belt or crank and see if engine is free. If not, put tractor in high gear and try to rock it , if that does not work, just unbolt the stater and see if engine is free then.

I would have the battery checked to make sure it is ok. Could have a bad cell. You can check it yourself if you have a hydrometer. Should read around 1.250 after you charge it. If one cell reads 1.100 you have a dead cell.

Clean all those battery connections until they're shiny. That includes where your battery is grounded. If your battery is 6 volts you should have 00 battery cables with soldered ends.

You should be able to hand crank that tractor to start it. Hal

Buy a cheap digital multimeter for your toolbox. That way you can take it and test the voltage of the battery right away and know if it is the problem.

The battery should read 6.2-6.5 Volts at rest. Under 6.0 Volts means that it is not being charged properly, or is going bad. 5.0 Volts means the battery is dead.

I suspect you have a bad connection somewhere:

1. Bad connection between ground cable and tractor frame.
2. Bad connection at battery posts.
3. Bad connection at starter switch.
4. Bad connection at starter.
5. Bad starter switch.

Bad connections happen suddenly: Yesterday it worked, today it won't.

The rocking must be pretty radical. If you look at the fan while rocking the tractor, and it moves (even an inch) the starter is not jammed.
If it does not move the starter may be jammed.
To unjam it it is necessary to loosen it wiggle and reinstall.
If the tractor or starter still fails to work, they are at fault. If the lights work, watching the lights when the starter is engagd (in neutral)will tell you if the starter is getting voltage. The lights will dimm to 2/3 brightness if there is current flowing to the starter, but not doing anything. If the lights remain bright, there is a corroded connection, broken wire, or faulty ground, or open starter motor (Broken or needing brushes) Jim
